Fine dust behaves differently from classroom soil
Timber dust from a sanding or docking operation is light, travels on air movement and settles on every horizontal surface including window ledges, light fittings, cable trays and the tops of cabinets. Sweeping it makes the problem worse by putting it back into the air. Metal fines from a grinder are heavier but abrasive, and they damage floor finishes and equipment wheels.
Method follows the material. Vacuum with suitable filtration rather than sweeping, damp wiping rather than dry dusting, and a defined high-level cycle that clears the reservoir on ledges and fittings. If the high level is never cleared, the visible surfaces will keep re-dusting no matter how often the benches are wiped, and the site will conclude the frequency is wrong when it is not. Recording which surfaces are included in the high-level cycle, by name, prevents it collapsing into attention to whatever is reachable from the floor.
